Greetings to All,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, Adam Byrd, as a well rounded, unselfish and loveable individual. I was born in Charlotte, NC at Carolinas
Medical Center at 11:38 p.m. April 20, 1990. I was always told as a young child that I had amazing talent. I was always the most athletic on any team I have ever
played on and I am truly blessed with the gifts from the Lord. I attended Lebanon Road Elementary School and excelled in the Honor Roll. From there I went to
Albemarle Road Middle School, where I played AAU Basketball throughout my years. In middle school I had a 34in. vertical and played power forward. When I
gradutated from ARMS, I took it to the next level and entered Independence Senior High School. Known for its' powerhouse 4AA Conference Football Team, we'd
already won 5 straight State Championships, and remained undefeated in 00', 01',02',03',04'. I was very pleased with this and made sure my academics were up to
par for the upcoming season. Throughout my entire freshman year I wrestled 155 in my class on the Varsity Team. Sophomore year at Independence, I entered the
coaches office standing 5' 10" and weighing 150 pounds even. I told them that I wanted to be a part of this great and well respected team. They changed one of my
classes to weightlifting immediately. That Spring semester we started Spring training, and it was amazing! We had speed training with Mr. Newman from the
Carolina Panthers (NFL) and I was defending star players. For example: Hakeem Nicks ( NFL- New York Giants) and Mohammed Massoquoi (Cleveland Browns
NFL WR). Mr. Newman taught me so much about my natural speed and abilities. From then on I played Varsity at Strong Safety, which is in all my absolute favorite
position. By the time the Summer came around, I was 5' 11" 165 pounds.
By the end of my Summer workouts, I was a solid 180 pounds and faster. My Junior year we were still undefeated; headed to our 100th game winning streak. I was
ecstatic. We'd ended the season with another State Championship and 108 straight victories (the longest current winning streak in the Nation). We had our State
Championship at UNC Chapel Hill. My last ring. By this time I had a lot of publicity, and was recognized for all the athletic events. By the Spring semester I was
running track and trying to juggle wrestling at the same time. I was a 100 meter dash runner, running a 10.5. I had my first combine at Wingate University and came
up as Top Ten - all postions - and then, got invited to the National Football Training Camp at Rutgers University where I came up as one of the top performers again. I
entered the Shrine Bowl combine and dominated once again - running a legit 4.38 40 yard dash, a 39 in. vertical, a 4.3 shuttle and a 7.3 cone drill. I was awarded as
the top performer.
My education at Independence High School was great. I scored a 1310 on my SAT and I was in Advanced Placement classes and Honors. My AP exams were 4's, the
highest scores. I had my Junior day at Butler High School, and I had offers from Virginia, NC A&T, FSU, NCSU, Marshall University, UNCFSU, and on the recruiting
lists for many others. Entering into my senior year undefeated and Nationally ranked, we were determined to drive for our 8th consecutive State Championship. By the
time our season started I was 6' 0" 195, benching 365 lbs., and running a 4.38 40. I excelled academically and athletically. I had newspaper articles, interviews and
State Championship rings. We were 3rd in the Nation, so we played at the University of Cincinnatti for the Kirk Herbstriet Tournament. Our streak ended on that day to
a 6A conference team in Cincinnatti by a touchdown. We came back to Charlotte and yet, still drove to the State Championship with a tarnished record of 121-2. Our
State Championship was played at Wake Forest University and the ending result is we lost by 11. I was nominated as the Player of the Game and made the front
page of Sports in the Charlotte Observer. I was devastated.
Graduating on June 12th, 2008 I was ready for college. I ended up bouncing from college to college getting the same answers. I was a(n) AP Scholar Student in High
School, but was missing a credit for Spanish. I was lost when I found out that I wouldn't make it to college after all of that hard work, I enrolled into Central Piedmont
Community College in downtown Charlotte. There, I double majored in Music and Psychology, and was referred to The Semi-Pro team (The Carolina Storm). I went
to two practices and was told I was dressing for the upcoming game that Saturday. I got a lot of playing time, and ended the game with 6 tackles, 2 pass deflections,
and 1 interception. I was then called by an old teammate from Independence High School, Napoleon Crudup, (graduated in 2004) who told me that The Carolina
Bulldogs were still in Summer workouts. So I reached out to the coach and told him about myself, and went to the practice. I made two interceptions and two
touchdowns on the first day, and ended up as the Starting Rookie Safety for the Carolina Bulldogs, and a Team Captain. I finished the season with 39 tackles, 7
interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 8 pass blocks. I was then selected as Rookie of the Year in the CCFL.
I have been blessed with a wonderful family. My father owned four businesses in downtown Charlotte and is a Professional Artist just like my mother. My mother is a
Professional Artist and a graduate of CPCC. I have been raised within a positive and structured environment. I have used all of these attributes and my talents to
succeed and do well for others. I have a great personality and great awareness. I am a humble and unselfish person on and off of the field, though passionate and
dedicated to expertise in my performance. I, unfailingly, put my all into anything that I do. I have always been a caring man, and have had responsiblities since I was
14. I have done community service at daycares, libraries, UNC Charlotte and Goodwill. I've always had a job since my freshman year of high school and am
athletically, musically and academically inclined. I was a 4 year 1st Chair Bassist for the Independence High School Orchestra and, was recognized as the Best
Bass Player in the state of North Carolina. I can compose any music for any instrument and clefs thanks to AP Music Theory.
My character is something I pay close attention to, and I am positive that I will make an excellent addition to your team. I have the athletic ability to play any skilled
position you would like for me to play, professional experience, and the ability to learn and immediately right my wrongs. I will work hard for not just the team, but for
myself and others. I am very coachable and open minded. I am also a Team Leader, and what I love most is ensuring that not only I excell in something I love to do;
but my teammates, or whoever I am working with do the same. Thank you for your time and I pray I can make a great addition to your team.
Sincerely,
Adam J. Byrd
