The German Football League (GFL) is the elite league for American football in Germany.
The GFL is divided into north and south conferences, each with six teams. In each
conference, every team will play each other twice, both at home and away. Each team
also plays home and away "inter conference games" against the team from the
opposing conference that finished the previous season with the same rank, so that the
regular season covers 12 games. At the end of the regular season, the top four teams
from each conferences enter the playoffs, to determine the German championship. The
winner of each conference plays against the fourth place team from the opposing
conference and the runner-up against the third place team. The final is called the
German Bowl.

There is also a second league called the 2nd Bundesliga which is comprised of 16 teams, with two conferences
(north and south), each with 8 teams. The top two teams from each conference will play in a relegation game
against the last place teams from each conference in the GFL. If a 2nd Bundesliga team defeats a GFL team in
relegation play, they will move up to the GFL and the GFL team will move down to the 2nd Bundesliga.
There are also lower division leagues such as: Regionalliga, Oberliga, Oberliga NRW, Verbandliga, Verbandliga
NRW, Verbandliga Bayern, Landisliga, Landisliga NRW.
