The EFL (European Football League) is the top tournament comprised of the best football teams who compete at
the highest levels of American football throughout Europe. The EFL tournament is an annual invitational
competition for teams who are members of the EFAF (European Federation of American Football). To qualify for
competition a team must have won the title of champion or vice-champion either in EFAF member federations,
national championships or in recognised international competitions. These teams will be broken down into a
playoff system where the final game (Eurobowl) determines the winner of the tournament.

Since 1986, when Taft Vantaa beat the Bologna Doves in Eurobowl I, many great football teams have played in the
Eurobowl.

During the Nineties the German football teams dominated the Eurobowl
competition with the exception of the 1993 and 1994 championships won
by the London Olympians. The Düsseldorf Panther won the next Eurobowl
in 1995 while the Hamburg Blue Devils dominated in 1996,1997 and 1998.
To wrap it up, the Braunschweig Lions took the 1999 Eurobowl trophy in
front of more than 20,000 roaring fans in the city of Stuttgart, Germany.

In 2000, 2001and 2002 the Bergamo Lions (Italy) won the Eurobowl. The Eurobowl XV (2001) was played in
Vienna, Austria and was the first American football game shown live on Austrian television. Eurobowl XVI (2002)
was played in Braunschweig, Germany and televised by DSF and Sat1 which are two of the most recognized
sports networks in Europe.

In 2003 the Braunschweig Lions won their second Eurobowl championship by defeating the Vienna Vikings. The
Austrian team would have their vengeance by dominating the tournament the following four seasons and winning
the Eurobowl championship in 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007.
